IPSC3 can receive GPS position information from supported DMR radios and
forward valid positions into the network GPS map and APRS-IS gateway. The
normal IPSC3 data service radio ID is 9998.
AnyTone-style GPS uses private DMR data to send an NMEA position report to
the IPSC3 data service. On VKDMR IPSC3 this should be configured for
Timeslot 1.
- Make sure the radio DMR ID is correct. IPSC3 uses that ID to look up the APRS callsign from RadioID.
- Enable the GPS receiver and confirm the radio has a valid GPS lock before testing.
- Create a digital contact named IPSC3 GPS as a private call to 9998.
- In Digital APRS, enable reporting to the IPSC3 GPS contact on Timeslot 1.
- Use an IPSC3 repeater or hotspot channel as the GPS/APRS report channel.
- Leave Analog APRS off unless you specifically want separate RF APRS operation.
- Do not beacon more often than every 10 minutes. Beaconing more often than every 10 minutes will result in your transmissions being blocked from the network for 1 hour.
Motorola GPS uses the Motorola data service path rather than the AnyTone
Digital APRS settings. Set the following options in Motorola CPS. The values
below follow the CPS sections and should be entered line by line.
- GNSS: ticked.
- GNSS: GPS/QZSS.
- Max TX PDU Size: 1500.
- ARS Radio ID: 9998.
- TMS UDP Port: 4007.
- XCMP Server ID: 9998.
- Battery Management Server ID: 9998.
- Data Modem System Type: Capacity Plus.
- ARS Monitoring ID: 9998.
- Location Server UDP Port: 4001.
- XCMP Server UDP Port: 4004.
- Battery Management Server UDP Port: 4012.
- ARS: on system/site change.
- Enhanced GNSS: not ticked.
- AnyTone GPS/APRS is received as private DMR packet data to radio ID 9998 and decoded by the APRS over DMR data path.
- Motorola GPS uses ARS presence and LRRP polling through the Motorola data service path.
- Motorola GPS applies to all configured radio channels through the channel ARS setting, not a single AnyTone-style Digital APRS timeslot option.
- GPS decode, storage, APRS-IS forwarding, and map updates run outside the live voice path.
